POLAR (2019)

Polar (2019): Netflix's First Huge Flop Of The New Year!

The world's top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head-to-head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

I am as disappointed in this movie as I have ever been in any Netflix movie, or any movie for that matter. This movie totally failed in two categories that Netflix is always strong in; Creative storytelling and Brilliant casting. The casting for this movie has to be the worst I have seen in a very long while. If there are movies that fail because of a lack of quality stars, this one will make the top 3 of any such list. That being said, I have to mention that the casting of Mads Mikkelson was a total waste of his talent and even as strong an actor as he is, even he could not save this disaster from happening.
The general idea of the movie is basically a cliché, but at least there was a decision to be creative and stray a little from the usual narrative. Having the Black Kaiser targeted not for any outward omissions or for any overt act of rebellion is good and would have made for a good story if only the movie wasn't so poorly scripted and hurriedly produced as to leave out detailed build of character and development of plot.
The movie basically began with an assassination that was anything but impressive, while the succeeding scenes set the stage for the conflict element without much backlift. That is as poor a story ever written as I have ever read. I was dismayed, distressed and disgusted. The movie failed in having good actors cast for roles, then failed in making the best of its somewhat unique take on the concept, failed woefully in developing the characters and was a total let down in creating a compelling conflict.
This was not only a waste of my data and time, it's even more insulting to Mads Mikkelson, whose huge talents Netflix just threw in the trash bin of underutilisation. Disgusting.
Maybe there are those that will find the fight scenes intriguing, but honestly I don't. Mads Mikkelson looked so out of place playing the role and his body movements never really bellied the agility that is required of an apex Hunter like the Black Kaiser. So even for fight scenes, Netflix failed abysmally and we are not impressed.

In all, this is a movie that we not only won't recommend to our readers, but we will go out on a limb and shout it at the top of our Voice; "stay away from this abnormality" it's just not worth the time, data, and effort.
