COLONY : A 3rd Season To earn the show its name and it's stripes!!!!
Colony the Tvseries tells the story of a Not too distant America ( and the world at large) after the arrival, occupation and subjugation of mankind by alien forces. The alien life forms (nicknamed 'the Raps' have devised a system of government by dividing America into colonies and enforcing the rules of the occupation through a ruthless paramilitary outfit known as Homeland Security (Red hats). The series follows the trials and tribulations of the Bowmans, Katie, Will and Bram, Charlie and Gracie, their uncanny alliance with Allan Snyder the proxy governor of Los Angeles block.
The 3rd season of the show finally earned the show its name and it's stripes. The first and 2nd seasons were good, but the 3rd season was the turning point for this show. The conclusion of the second season seemed to suggest that the Tvseries was drawing to a close, however the 3rd season effectively affected the destiny of this show, by not only resolving the story and conflict that had been developed from the first and 2nd seasons in a thrilling first 5 episodes, and proceeding to create and commence development of the new conflict which in our opinion set the basis for the title of the show.
Even though the show had always been premised on the idea of an alien colony established by the occupation, the 3rd season however redid the narrative by rationalising the occupation and the events leading to it. It thereafter presented us with the idea that the occupation was mutually beneficial, both to the humans and to the Raps. The introduction of new and more ruthless, villains set the tone for a whole new plot theme element.
I have never seen a more death defying, franchise saving season as Colony season 3 has done. Not only did the season save the entire franchise, it definitely compensated for the poor acting and poor script writing from the first two seasons. The 3rd season also expunged the weakness in the plot of the show, (the resistance), and replaced it with a much more intelligent and relatable protagonistic Force, being Everett Kynes and his select group of 'Outliers'. This felt more like a force capable of toppling the occupation and restoring order to the planet, as against the ragtag resistance we had come to detest from the first 2 seasons.
While we are overly impressed with the directional change with regards to the plot, theme and conflict elements, we are still not too impressed with the acting, the script writing and the fact that the show still intends to keep the Bowmans at the heart of the show. We feel that there are newer and more compellable forces who definitely offer more to the show than the Bowmans.
One point we actually did enjoy is the death of Charlie Bowman. That created a lot more emotional support for the show, and revealed the human and inhuman sides of Alan Snyder.
Ps: we don't like the fact that Sarah WayneCallies is still lead female. Her style of acting js outdated, her persona is poor, her carriage is just wrong and we have no interest In seeing her as lead female; perhaps, she should shut her mouth, be a housewife and take care of the children while others fight the battle for earth. period!
Bryan J. Condal and Carlton Cuse have shown their pedigree once again. They have done the unthinkable by converting a relatively ordinary show, into a rivetting and must see tv series.
The 3rd season is great, the 4th season is going to be greater. We have seen the direction the creative team is going, and we have a lot of interest in how the show will be resolved. We are particularly interested in how Alan Snyder and Will Bowman wil influence the show, while hoping against all hope that Katie Bowman (Sarah WayneCallies) will be a woman, and a housewife and keep out of our sights. We don't want unnecessary drama neither do we want bad acting. This may perhaps be one very notable aspect of the show towards the end of the season. The trained eyes will see that the creative team are slowly edging her out of relevance. She has been informed she is nothing more than a liability, and that perhaps has to be the best line from the series ever!
Perhaps if possible, a way should be found to rid the show totally of Bram Bowman( Alex Neustaedter). His body movement is just not right, we don't need him and we have no interest in his character at all. It's time for him to close shop and exit the show. Period!
In fact, what we are simply saying is that it's time for the entire Bowman family to NOT be at the forefront of affairs. This is going to become an all out intergalactic war with Planet earth as ground zero, we certainly will only require one Bowman to be at the helm of affairs; and that's Will, not some ridiculous nosey Wannabe spy of a housewife who has yet to learn her place or earn her way into reckoning. Even her fellow female resistance operative has more usefulness as a combat medic.
Hard decisions, very hard decisions need to be made with regards to character roles and we demand they be made with extreme prejudice.
Keep your fingers crossed, it's going to be a monster 4th season.
