The dark Phoenix

Yes it's another installment of the X-men franchise and this time it's about Jean Grey and the dark Phoenix.
Basically this is about Jean Grey and  her struggles with who she is, on a mission to space to free some scientist, Jean Grey gets hit by a cosmic force the entity known as the dark Phoenix and this takes her from being a tier 1 mutant to becoming the strongest mutant alive .
As she struggles with herself and her new found powers, Jean Grey spirals out of control and in the process almost destroys the whole earth,  she has to be stopped by none other than her own very family the x-men.

It's another remake of the dark Phoenix story arch, anyone familiar with the comic story about the dark Phoenix story especially the edition In the 1980s will never be okay with any screen adaptation of it and this is where the problem lies.

In the last 10 years alone this is the second dark Phoenix story and nothing new really I can't even say which was better though I am leaning towards the first date Phoenix but that does not still warrant the harsh reviews this movie has gotten from a lot of sites and review magazines.

So we will really just try to talk about this movie on its own merit without comparing it to past adaptations of it and if you do that you will realise that it was not that terrible, it still was not great but not as terrible as it has been made out to be.

Looking at the plot of the movie, its the normal x-men movie plot which is always very basic at best bar x-men 1, x-men 2 which is still the best, first class and Logan. Nothing much is really mew with the plot but the only painful thing about this was the fact that the directors did not just care about developing and fleshing out the characters.

Except for Charles Xavier and Jean Grey herself the directors literally forgot about the rest of the cast and this did not make for good viewing, our villian in this movie at the end of the movie you still don't even get who she is, why is fighting Jean, her character, what makes her tick and the rest.
This was so annoying because without understanding the villian you find it hard to actually buy into the story that the movie is telling.

Even the dark Phoenix itself is not even given much flesh and character arch, give us a back ground on what or who is the dark Phoenix and why it is compatible with Jean and why it destroys everything it comes in contact with.

Every other character in this movie is just made to be useful as their character relates with Jean Grey and it is not even done properly because we are not made to even appreciate the relationship they each have individually with Jean and thus the internal struggle they have to go through to actually come out and fight against her.

I can really go on and on about all the mistakes that the writers of this movie made in the plot but that will be me not doing justice to an otherwise average movie.

The name of the movie is the dark Phoenix and really this was quite literal, it was so dark in the tone and in humour for a moment you could be forgiven for thinking that this was a Zach Snyder movie in the dceu, it was so terrible and almost funeral like.
If this was really goodbye then it was a terrible swansong.

Normally x men movies are dark but this was a new level and it was not great in any way.
I really don't know what the writers intended and again this relates back to the plot of the movie and maybe in a weird way they felt that the tone of the movie captured the story better but essentially the dark Phoenix is a creature of joy, emotions all about desires and passion and thus not suited for this tone of movie because to really get the essence of what the dark Phoenix does to Jean Grey, it makes her change her personality from the traumatised and controlled gifted mutant to a carefree individual who did whatever she wanted and a dark themed movie does not really allow this side to flourish and why all we got was her doing damage and destruction which is not all the dark Phoenix was all about.

Wont even waste time talking about cgi In this movie it was practically non existent or just there how do you have a great x-men movie without effective use of cgi but then most of the scenes were in dark places and at night and this does not really aid the use of cgi, cgi is better appreciated in a well lighted scene and this is why you are enthralled with how great cgi are used in car racing movies (fast and furious)  comes to mind and then you are left Thinking just what if Kevin feige was the brain behind this movie, how great would it have actually been but then let's leave imaginations to be just that. On this point though I will recommend you watch this movie in 3d as that will make you appreciate the great visual in this movie or best you wait for the DVD release and get it on blu ray,  it will be great.

One of the few good things about this movie were the fight and action sequences. They were great, fast and wonderfully paced, the team work was great and it just showed that this team of actors had become used to one and another. Enough can't be said about the son of magneto quick silver, he literally takes your breathe away anytime he is on screen and we can't help but think he should get a solo movie, the fight scenes in this movie were simply great, each character got enough time just to  be good and it was nice to see.
It did go a long way to actually make the movie decent because really nothing much was great about this movie and it was a relief to see this, the pacing was the one good thing about it, they corrected the mistakes they made from the last x-men.

Let's finally talk about the cast of this movie
Sophie Turner contrary to popular belief was great as Jean Grey, did I just write that well she was and this was a surprise really to me and alot of people because of the fact they there has never really been a great Jean Grey in any adaptations of the X-men i don't know why this always happens and also the fact that she was terrible in the last installment of this movie.

James mcavoy just gave us his best performance as Charles Xavier I did not see that coming not In a million years .He really came into his own as the character he was paying and this was great.

Again I need to meet these people who feel that Micheal Fassbender is a great actor, he has been terrible as magneto and he did not disappoint in being terrible yet again in this movie, it's high time he gets booted out but well this is the end of the X-men franchise let's see what the future holds.

The rest of the cast were quite okay and the writers should have given Jessica chastain more time on screen as the villian she is a spectacular actress and this was not fair to her.

Taking all the above into consideration we at fca rate this movie a 5.5/10 and I only recommend this if you just want to go and see a pg -13 fantasy and well the Swansong of the X-men franchise.

Lastly Can marvel get the right to this movie again please your creative touch is needed.
