Hellboy 2019

,
Hellboy is a 2019 american super hero film based based on the dark horse comics character of the same name. directed by neil marshall the film stars david harbour in the title role, alongside milla jovovich, ian mcshane, sasha lane , daniel dae kim and thomas haden church. it is a reboot of the hellboy film series and third live action film in the franchise. the film draws inspiration from the comic books darkness calls, the wild hunt, the storm and the fury and the hellboy in mexico.

The project began as a sequel to hell boy 2 the golden army with andrew cosby and hellboy creator mike mignola writing the script. guilermo del toro was not offered the full writer director capacity , he had to performed in the first two films and ron perlman who portrayed hellboy in the previous films, refused to return without guilermo involvement. the project turned into an r-rated reboot after marshall was hired as the director and harbour cast as hellboy.

Hellboy was released on April 12, 2019 t, it was a box office bomb, grossing $46.1 million against a $50 million budget.

So basically in the old ages the evil witch queen nimue unleashes a plague upon England but she is destroyed by Arthur with the help of Excalibur,Merlin and another witch ganieda, she is disemberred and spread across the earth. centuries later hellboy is all grown and working with the B.R.P.D under his adoptive father T revor. The evil queen comes back after being assembled back together by a former enemy of hellboy gruagach with the belief that he will be granted power to destroy hellboy.
The evil queen on coming back to life and getting her powers back wants to exert revenge on the world and she wants to use hellboy to achieve this her aimand desire.  The story progresses from there to how hellboy finally defeats the evil witch queen and stops the apocalypse from happening.

Having seen the storyline it looks good on paper but then no matter how good an idea is on paper if it is not executed properly by the right set of people and that was essentially what happened with this movie, after watching it the flaws become obvious and you get why the outrage and criticism that followed the release of the movie did. imagine getting this movie on dvd it will be terrible. it was obvious from watching it that it was not the work of one writer or creative head rather it was a mash up of ideas and thus it did not do any of the writers or directors justice in anyway at all.

What exactly was the need for a reboot to a movie franchise that was doing well , okay even if there was to be a reboot why then start with a story we had seen already and a very successful one at that , this already meant that even before the release date it was to be always going to be judged not on its own merit but against how well the last installment of the movie did and being honest it had alot going against it.
So what we saw was a reboot that was not necessary in the first place and a very poorly scripted and executed reboot at that. another thing that was wrong with this reboot was the movie being a rated -R movie, once a movie goes from being pg to becoming a rated -r movie it most times never turns out great ,just look at die hard 4, aliens v predators 2 and its subsequent installment were never as good as the original which was not rated-R. in this case there was really no need for this movie to be a rated-R except for the fact that they just needed to put violence on the screen and when i mean violence i mean violence , it was really cringeworthy, gory just to be fair and the issue was that the violence did not serve any purpose in this movie it was not used to further the storyline or develop the characters in any way whatsoever.

yes one of the things i like if used properly in a movie and its called cgi, Good cgi does not make a movie great but terrible cgi makes a movie bad because it sticks out and its just not nice to look out and literally bad cgi was in almost every single scene in this movie i really don't know what the intention of the writer  was but whatever he had in mind did not pan out the way he thought it would in his mind while formulating or imagining it, i am sure it must have looked or sounded great in theory but application is a story for another time. its been a while i saw an action thriller that did not have arranged fight sequences, like this is elementary but the opposite was the case the fight sequences did not add up, they were not paced properly and this led to the scenes being flat and scattered. a fight scene went from 0-50 then to 110 then back to 20 all in a single scene and this was even applicable to the songs that were played while action was going on.

One could be mistaken thinking that the scene being shown and the song being played were for two very different movies , just look at the scene where hellboy was battling the three giants and then listen to the music that was being played in the background it just did not add up and made that scene to just appear normal with the right music that scene should have had the audience on their feet but that was not even the case at all.

A good Villian makes for a great super-hero movie the writers of this movie failed totally in this aspect of this movie , no matter what we just could not appreciate nimue as the main villian there was really nothing about the arch of her story that made it interesting, appealing we just could not buy into her vendetta against mankind it just did not catch on, there was gruagach who was just there waiting to be made the real villian it was more believing , you could understand the grudge he had against hellboy and why he needed powers to defeat hellboy and exactly why he would be willing to do anything to get the said powers, at the time he was getting fleshed out they just killed off his character.

This did not make sense in any way at all but that was what we had come to expect from the creative minds behind the movie. It could have been great to honestly just see hellboy go against the pig , that was probably the best fight scene in the whole movie and yet it was just killed off like that.

Character development was non existent in this movie literally the way a character was when the movie began that was how they were till the end of the movie and it was not interesting in any way at all. we just could not grow to appreciate feel what the characters were trying to pass across because there was nothing that would draw us to the said character. I dont still get how you can make a movie and not bother to advance the story of each individual character in the movie, it just does not make sense at all but you see this happen in a lot of movies and then they expect miracles to happen in the movie and make it a success.

one of the few good things about this movie was casting david harbour as hellboy, he really did lift his own weight in this movie and it was a shame that he had to work with so little in this movie. there was really nothing else that he should have done that he did not do and the truth remains that no matter how good an actor you are you are only as good as the script that and crew that you are working with. A bad script cant really be fixed except by starting over. he was really great in this movie but same cant be said about the rest of the cast because it was sub par acting from the rest of them .their acting was as good as the script they were working it. they were a match made in heaven.
having stated all the above from us at fca this movie gets a score of 5/10 and it should not even get a sequel, it was that terrible.
