Shazam

Deep down there is a superhero lurking somewhere inside of each of us and all we need is just a little bit of magic to bring it out but I'm the case of Billy batson all he needs is just to say the magic word and he is transformed into the adult super hero shazam .
Billy gets his powers after it is passed down to him by a the last remaining wizard who protects the realm from the seven deadly sins by using his magic to bind them but he is getting old and thus needs to transfer his powers and he does this by giving 14 year old Billy his powers and Billy does what any other 14 year old will do he has fun while trying to figure out the extent of his powers.
 And at the same time he must learn this while trying to overcome the villian the evil dr. Thaddeus Silvana who wants to take his powers.

 Yes and before we go any further let me just say this, this is an origin story and looking from the context of previous dc origin story, this is one of the best origin stories I have seen in a long while.
 They were very consistent and we're very original basically went along with the source material available for this show flowing from the comics and this is not always easy to do, often we don't understand how hard It is to just follow the comics if you doubt go and ask the producers of cloaks and dagger, captain marvel and you just may get an understanding of what we are talking about. Well dc is actually good at origin stories look at Wonder Woman.

 This is probably the new direction dc is headed and I don't necessarily like or support it but it is oddly refreshing for a DC movie to be full of laughter and light humour, not the prototype dark and gritty films we have come to associate with them, we saw a bit of this in aquaman but there were still some elements of dark tones in the movie but in shazam it's all humour and yes again shazam originally when he was still called captain marvel was a comic book character and this is the source material they went with.
 This new fun themed stories is dc trying to relate better with its younger audience who relate with the comic books more and it's a success. Normally DC's movies are meant for adult audiences but in this case shazam is meant for both adults and children and been a hit at the box office.

 Having said all the above, the movie still left a lot to be desired and it just comes off as a bust to a lot of people who were expecting a hard hitting super hero movie, they really were disappointed but for the regular comic fans this movie was great albeit not spectacular but it was expected starting from when the trailers were released at San Diego comic con. Again dc toed the marvel concept of conic relief with not so great fight sequences and very funny lines.

Talking about the fight sequences they were practically non existent in this movie except if you call what we got fight scenes and that will really be funny. This is one of the aspects of the movie I really did not like, we really did not see the best of shazam but I hope this won't be the case for the subsequent sequels.

We are tired of saying this but a super hero is only as good as the villian he faces in the movie and the seven deadly sins were terrible as villains, don't get me started on dr. Silvana I really don't want to go on a rant but nope it was really disappointing and annoying, what was that exactly even kids won't buy that as a villian talk more of the adult fans. DC can and should really do better enough heartbreaks for their staunch fanbase we don't deserve this.

 CGI it can be the death of a movie or the soul of it but more often than not in the case of DC it is the death of it, how do you budget millions for a movie and then get this much level of Mediocrity ,the cgi in this movie was looking like what was for for a low budget elementary school science project and it was laughable DC can do better let's hope this is the last time we get this rubbish called cgi from DC please we are begging, it was an eyesore watching the scenes that involved the seven deadly sins especially in the cinema where you can't skip it fast forward those scenes.

Casting was great in this movie and watching Zachary Levi all muscled and in shape for this movie was great, the goofy character shazam was tailor made for him to play.

So having said all these it's a 6/10 rating from us at fca for this movie, the areas for improvement are plenty and better is expected.
