As a short story, perhaps this movie would have maybe captivated audience, but as a 90 minute script, it's absolute rubbish, total nonsense and a ridiculous washout. First off, the concept is total ridiculousness, over flogged and smacks of unbridled lack of creativity and repetitiveness. Netflix have tried their hands severally on post apocalyptic or H.E.L.E. movies and it's just not working for them. Maybe it's time for the creative team over there to take a breather, think and realise that this whole sci-fi genre is just not working, especially when mixed with apocalyptic events / supernatural occurrences. Annihilation failed for this, Bird Box almost failed for this and Extinction didn't make the impact it was supposed to have. It's brainless repeating the same thing and expecting different results.
Now, let's talk about the movie on its own merits, the movie has a very despicable premise and concept, it's totally unreliable, unrelatable and lacking in proper background, build up or development. It's one of those Netflix stories that have no beginnings and have no ends to them, and it certainly is becoming old, boring and outlandish.
That being said, the movie totally lacked a conflict upon which the movie may have thrived. The absence of the conflict, and the dearth of proper characterization or a solid plot development created a movie absolutely lacking in characters, plot, conflict and depth. Essentially, the movie is a black hole conjured out of free time and an abundance of resources to waste the time of viewers.
The absence of characters to adequately tell the story of the movie would have meant that the casting be solid, carrying actors worthy of carrying the story. It would also have required a lot of creativity and rivetting dialogues. All of these were very evidently absent from the movie and only the doggedness of viewers allowed them to view the movie to the end.
Character performance was shambolic, struggling to enter character or deliver award winning performances capable of bringing the movie to life. The movie essentially was a dead log from opening sequences to the closing scenes. I am disappointed and I owe myself an apology for wasting both my time and data on this piece of crap.
This movie already has my vote for the worst movie of the year 2019.
