Cancelled!!!!! Yay or Nay?
When FCA reviewed Iron Fist season 2 some weeks back, there were a lot of talk that the FCA AppR meter was too strict and a little too harsh on the show. With the decision by Netflix to cancel the show, it would appear as though FCA's rating of the show is monstrously justified by the Studio itself. Now that being said, the show has been cancelled, what is the next step, what does life hold for the stars of the show? Is this the death of the Immortal Iron Fist? What is the real reason for its cancellation?
Sliding straight to the reason the show was cancelled, it's definitely not unconnected to Yet more mixed reactions from viewers, and a dip in the income as contrasted with financial projections. Moreso, the show had always projected weakness, moreso as seen front the first season. Amongst the Marvel Netflix shows, it would appear to all and sundry, that the Immortal Iron Fist was always the weak link amongst all four; make that five. It's weakness is not character based, even though the character himself was presented in such a form that he was seemingly weak. The true weakness of the show comes from the story itself. The story has been really ridiculous, it has annoyed fans and even the storytelling has not been able to help an otherwise ridiculously poor script. It was so poor that Scott Buck lost his role as Showrunner to Raven Metzner for the 2nd season. It felt as though the 1st season was simply used to introduce a character unworthy of the mantle of the Immortal Iron Fist. Marvel's apex martial artist felt like a regular brawler. It was so bad that the show runners had to invite Black Panther's combat trainer /choreographer to help improve Finn Jones.
After the disaster that was season 1, the 2nd season tried not to make the mistakes of the 1st season, but ended up making a hash of it. The biggest mistake was demystifying the Immortal Iron Fist, turning it into something that every martial artist could strive for and actually achieve. What was even more ridiculous was that Marvel's apex combat specialist was subjected to ridicule, losing back to back fights to Davos, and ended up being trained by Colleen Wing, an underling of the Hand, trained not even by Madam Gao!? It was a conflicting situation, and the viewers were not impressed. Did we mention that in all of this chaos the showrunners totally deviated from the comic? And the deviation was totally crooked, useless and of no substance.
Having appraised some few reasons for its well deserved and anticipated cancellation, let's get to the next point, are we impressed with Netflix's cancellation?
The decision by Netflix to end the show is premature from our point of view. It's just the 2nd season, and even though the show has been poor, it has not been utterly disastrous or disgusting. The destruction of the show has not been total, it has been a systematic disintegration of a solid comic book character, however one that is capable of being remedied. We had even felt that the introduction of Mary Walker AkA Typhoid Mary into the show felt like a step in the right direction. The character was built in a most amazing fashion in the 2nd season and left just a little left unsolved to want a third season. What is the 3rd persona of Mary Walker, and what triggers her bloody psychopathic rage? We at FCA felt she was one character capable of saving the show from its trash bin destination.
What's next for the stars?
Colleen Wing could head over to a spinoff show; The Daughters Of the Dragon
Danny Rand(Iron Fist) could join Luke Cage in Heroes for Hire
Mary Walker ought reasonably not be wasted and should transition easily to her original show, Daredevil, as Matt Murdock's Most vile foe.
Another alternative is that Danny Rand and Colleen Wing may make cameos in Harlem to stand against Luke Cage, who is now a crime Boss and whom Detective Misty Knight now has issues with. Well, Misty Knight already feels the need for Colleen in Harlem to talk sense into Cage's Thick skull or at least knock some sense into him.
We were obviously not impressed with the two season of Iron Fist, but we are not joyful of the fact that same has been cancelled by Netflix. We feel like it deserved a little more chance to correct it's failings with maybe another season, but I certainly won't be crying over its cancellation. Period!
Well we will keep our arms crossed to see if Netflix will reverse it's decision. Knowing Netflix, they won't be taking it back, and I am sure a lot of companies won't be wanting to pick something Netflix couldn't handle.
