BLINDSPOT

Blindspot: Time to Close up Shop!!

The Jane Doe Story continues through a hellatiously boring and increative 3rd season and we at FCA think it's about time to call it quits. The 3rd season of Blindspot picked up from where the 2nd season left off, with the FBI task force handling Jane Doe disbanded, Jane Doe missing, Agent Zapata now with the CIA, Patterson now a Games programmer, Kurt Welker on the trail of Jane, Edgar Reade now Assistant Director of The FBI in charge of the New York field office and Rich DotCom now consults for the FBI. The discovery of new bioluminescent tattoos hidden beneath the original tattoos on Jane's body brings the whole team together to solve the puzzles and clues intricately woven into the tattoos once again. Roman is on a mission to destroy the relationship between members of the task force, while at the same time revealing the secrets and corruption being hidden and covered by the members of the team and the FBI, while also at the same time helping the FBI task force take down Hank Crawford. This set the tone for one of the most obviously confused tv shows on air in 2018.

The storyline of the 3rd season was as much confused as it was ridiculously mediocre. In the very beginning, Roman who had a goal to destroy the FBI task force did the one thing that could bring the task force together; giving them newer and more recent tattoos for them to work. It did seem very contradictory, more so if we factored in the fact that Roman really had a special plan to wreck the relationship between Jane and Kurt by exposing their secrets, but chose a bioluminescent tattoo that could only be seen if it was activated by both Jane and Kurt!? Its a curious decision by the creative team and the director, and we must confess that it failed abysmally as we were in no way impressed neither were we convinced at Roman's real objectives.
We must also throw it out there that for a villain who had it in for the FBI task force, hell bent on destroying what was left of the team, he chose a very ridiculous and curious way of achieving that; giving the team tattoo cases to work on, with the aim of creating a divide between the team, while "wait for it" , helping the team take down Hank Crawford. It just seemed as though the series creators were confused, because we don't understand how the task is to destroy the team, but at the same time he is uniting them by giving them someone to take down in Hank Crawford?!  It's ridiculous, it's stupid and it smacks of a lack of creative acumen! Perhaps the creative team has run out of ideas? Or is it just time to close up shop?
Let's work on the overall achievements of the season; it felt off, it was boring, it was not creative and the audience were not taken with the result. The 3rd season actually felt like a break in time, like a waka pass character in a movie. We were disgusted with the story, unimpressed with the storytelling and dismayed at the lack of plot, conflict and character depth. The storytelling for one was disjointed and seemed too much like a patchwork piece. The writers sought to appeal to our emotional side by trying to play the emotional card with Jane and Avery(Her daughter) as well as with Reade and Zapata. It just didn't work, it was not played well and we didn't relate enough with the characters to be bothered about their emotional traumas. For one we think the producers dumped those two scenarios on us far too quickly with no buildup. We found it quite ridiculous that Jane not only had a daughter, but she was grown up and obviously was involved with Hank Crawford, albeit on a familial level. Badly played people! Ridiculous.
The most awkward part of the season had to be with the tattoos, I know I keep returning to the tattoos, but it's just ridiculous that Jane Doe passes out for 45 minutes, and Roman has all the time in the world to tattoo a whole bodywork of intricately woven tattoos onto Jane's body? Need I mention that throughout the series, Roman has been portrayed as the type that was more brawn than brain? He was more of the muscle than the brain. Thus the question, how did he achieve it in 45 minutes? Ridiculous!
Mention must be made of the fact that Roman is a die hard follower of Shepherd, a die hard terrorist who has only one objective, achieve the goal. But he went and fell in love with Hank Crawford's daughter? That move is just hilarious and there is no better way of expressing it than 'disgusting'!!!
All in all,  disastrous 3rd season, the rivetting and compelling tv show we had grown to love with the progression of its first 2 seasons were totally absent in the 3rd season and that has led us to conclude that it may perhaps be time to call it quits and end the tvshow before the image of the Tvseries is totally destroyed. The conflict element is no longer captivating ,the suspense element is dead, and series feels much like deadwood. It may even be equated to flogging a dead horse. It is time to call it quits, it's time to close up shop. Series creators need to learn when to end a show, know when to accept the obvious, that every good thing must come to an end. Period!!

Martin Gero and Greg Berlanti need to take a step back, re-evaluate and perhaps take the decision to end the show, or maybe take a year break and return with a big 4th season? I'd like to see them attempt the latter, more so as Jane Doe seem to have had her memories reset to her villainous state. It may perhaps make for a compelling conflict and an even better narrative. We just hope this conflict element is not diluted with a lot of emotional elements in between, it may really annoy audience beyond repair.
