JURASSIC WORLD

Jurassic World; Fallen Kingdom : A Jurassic Flop?!

Three years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.

From the very beginning of the movie, we were appalled at what the directors and producers sought to achieve here. It was like we were watching disaster waiting to happen, while all the while being in the know.
The first scene was an absolute disaster, merely uttering the sentence; "anything here must have been dead by now" had to be the most stupid statement ever made in a movie. Like what did that mean? They were under water in Islar Nublar, den of dinosaurs.! How long did they think dinosaurs lived for? I mean, that was just a mere three(3) years from the destruction of Jurassic World.
Did I mention that Dinosaurs are apex predators? They r top of the food chain, so if time had not made them extinct( being just three years) then there was no way in hell they could have become extinct by being prey, no?
The opening scenes of the movie were an absolute travesty, a disaster that occurred right off the bat. We felt the production team could have done better no doubt.  Let's talk about the story itself.

What did the directors hope to achieve? A conspiracy to auction off the dinosaurs of Islar Nublar, while also creating newer, deadlier and more morally disturbing dinosaur versions? I mean think about the deadly impact the Indominos Rex had on the eco system and the Islar Nublar food chain, one would have thought it'd be insane to try anything similar? But no, the writers thought to give it another spin, it felt stupid, old and boring. We were not at all interested.
How about the story telling itself? It did come off as unserious as a comic strip. I found every little opportunity to laugh at Chris Pratt. The story was told in the most ridiculous way possible. From surviving a volcanic eruption that levelled an island, to being in a cage with a T-rex, to fighting off the IndoRaptor and the meddlesomeness of Blue( the Velociraptor). One would in fact have thought the Velociraptor was a herbivorous dog, rather than the most ferocious of dinosaurs.
That being said, the conflict was not only silly, it was drab, boring and outright predictable. We expected that the villainous dinosaur creators would be eaten, we expected that the protagonist will scale through unscathe, and we expected that the conflict resolution will one way or the other involve Blue( the herbivorous Velociraptor, who amazingly always appears to have teeth when it's defending the protagonists against bigger foes), tsk dull. We are starting to have a feeling movie makers feel the modern day audience cannot handle gore and heartbreaks, but that is very wrong, the audience in the modern era are very demanding, in fact we demand more gore, more deaths and much more attention to serious detailing. A return to the classic Jurassic World story telling style will obviously suit us better. In the past we had more deaths and more lucky escapes rather than the super hero complex of the Jurassic World franchise.
I must particularly point out that it seemed ridiculous and ludicrous that in the face of a rampaging IndoRaptor and number of T-rexes, and  whole other varieties of carnivorous Dinosaurs, Grady and Seating still had time to play the Hero, oh please, jurassic park had them all running away at break-neck speed with their heels touching the back of their heads.
Acting was as usual, brilliant, because they had A-listers, script was poor, but the execution was average. The story will however not be winning Chris Pratt any awards for this one. The story telling could have been better, but having a bad story did no favours to the story telling.
Whereas there are techniques of telling a bad story to deliver incredible results, Derek Connolly and Co definitely did not find the right formular for this one. However we can at least rate them a solid A for the CGI effects, guess Hollywood won't ever have an issue with that aspect of their movies.
At this point I think it's safe to say that movies involving animal elements require something special to be good or top notch, it requires a compelling conflict, it needs a good story teller and it should ultimately deviate from the cliché.  We have seen a lot of them over the years, and we are still getting more of them, look at Rampage, look at Kong; skull island and I must throw in Dawn of Planet of the Apes, even though the latter did produce something astonishing at the very least.
For adrenaline junkies, connoisseurs of break-neck speed action and apocalypse level event depiction, you may find this one interesting. But for those who are hooked to compelling stories, suspense, rivetting conflict, a-list acting, suave dialogues and an all round cinematic masterpiece, toh, this one may not be for you, or it may just be a feel good movie for you.
