It is a novel and highly welcome idea that a high profile legal drama is about to kick off in the Nigerian soap opera scene. Thanks to the likes of Richard Mofe-damijo and Dakore Egbuson as key personalities in this production,the producers have promised a "glued to your TV screen syndrome".
It is with so much vigour and joy that the legal community anticipated the big step with many coming from a background of seeking legal drama motivations from movies like THE GOOD WIFE,BOSTON LEGAL,SUITS etc. In view of this and judging from the cast and production outfit,nothing but the BEST was and is expected of them,with expectations on thorough legal research and nearness to
perfection.
It was with HORROR and mouths agap that the first publicity poster with movie roles of characters Known as Nneka,kwabena and Abdulmalik that got the legal community fainting in their order of call to bar enrolment!
We were greeted with horrific portrayal of the first sanctity of the profession which is embedded in the lawyers clothing. We saw a group of ill-dressed lawyers without lawyer shirts (known to be collarless)and the final poisoning....dressed without suits under the robes.
My disappointment in this isn't just because the production outfit is high profile,but that persons such as RMD who is a lawyer called to the bar is expected to know better!did RMD dress that way on his call to bar date?many other personalities in the production team were also called to the bar and perhaps practiced for a while before venturing into movies!how could they have opened their eyes to witness such abomination and sacrilege? How could they have supervised such disservice to the profession which such disservice is known to be the hallmark of Yoruba/odunlade produced movies! THIS IS EBONYLIFE FOR HEAVENS SAKES!
It is our view at FCA Cinemarantz that this should be taken care of immediately and the needful should be done. Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well. The legal profession has been battered and suffered enough in poor portrayal in Nigerian soaps and movies, IT SHOULD STOP!
