IMPULSE- A hit or A miss

Another hyped and talked about series,  generally I tend to avoid series that come with a lot of hype and build up to their release because our expectations become so much that we are most times always left disappointed due to our high expectations for the series. This is another you tube red premium release, I actually enjoy their series.
Directed by Doug liman, the series kicked off with a bang,  we see two men one of them played by keegan -Michael key,  engaged in a full on teleportation brawl,  exchanging punches as they shift between a remote iceberg and a busy subway train full of confused passengers. It's a thrilling spectacle alas don't be deceived that was just one of the few action scenes in the whole season of the series.
Impulse is a relative of the jumper movie and an adaptation of the novel impulse by Steven Gould. But the series really drifts away from the jumper story as we know it and also could not be farther away from the novel than one could ever be.
Simply put impulse is a series about a young girl with no friends due to her mum constantly changing towns because of her boyfriends. In the new town they  are currently staying with a man and his daughter a dismissive popular girl at school. Impulse simply focuses on how the lead character  Henrietta Cole deals with sexual assault and how she recovers from the effect of that incident rather than her exploring her abilities as a teleporter. The script writers for the ten episodes who out of the ten writers, seven are women lays emphasis on the sexual assault as we see by the warning on the beginning of each episode and the adverts done by the cast.
Having stated this I need to compliment Maddie hasson for her brilliant acting as a
Disturbed young woman undergoing the trauma that comes with being sexually assaulted,  she really sold this part to the audience. I was not convinced that she would be able to pull it off but she did, kudos to her.
Generally the series is not what you thought it was going to be which really suprised me,i really was expecting an action packed intrigue series but in reality what we got Was a drama in simple words , they really drifted away from the jumper part of the series but I hope they do bring it into play in the subsequent seasons the sexual assault story line can only be pushed to a certain extent. I would rate this series a 6/10 and will recommend it not to every one but to a particular section of my audience.
