The chilling adventures of Sabrina season 2

It's our favourite little witch again, the second season of the chilling adventures of Sabrina has just ended and well let's talk about it,  both the good and the bad bits and finally rate it over ten.

Well just for a quick recap because this is the second review of this series as there is already a review for the first season which you can find on the blog. Sabrina spellman is the protagonist of this show, she is  half witch and half human and the show focuses on her journey to discovering herself and deciding who she wants to be either a full witch or if she wants to focus on her human part.

Now having seen the plot of the show let's proceed to talk about it.

I actually have a lot of issues with the second season of this show and so let's talk about the hit and misses arising from the second season of the show .

First let's talk about the element of conflict in a character, in season one Sabrina was made out to be a character who was in conflict and turmoil over who she wanted to be, she was torn between the human part of her and the witch part of her.
This very conflict in character made her gain empathy among the viewers but by the second episode of the second season this element was totally removed and it was a headscratching decision though, because why remove that part of the plot, it absolutely made no sense at all because it made her character become quite one dimensional and it left a lot to be desired.

Secondly just in case the directors of this show forgot, there is something known as character development because it was totally non existent in the second season of this show and I am still wondering why.
Lot of the characters in this show had the potential to be great but only if time and effort is invested in the said character . And this lack of character development made a lot of the characters in the show to just fall flat and not really relate with the audience, we don't really appreciate what they are going through,or the battles they are fighting. And this is funny cause going back to the books this is a key element in it as we have a lot of the female characters being very prominent.

You get the feeling that alot of things were rushed in this show and that is quite terrible, for one it has a runtime of one hour per episode and thus you don't get to understand why it looks rushed and feels like there is really not a great story in this season.

We are just made to believe that Sabrina is good at spells we actually never get to see her learning or practicing any of the said spells. Again Sabrina as a character feels rushed in this season, we don't get to see her grow rather we are just supposed to accept her because her surname is spellman and her father was a former high priest of the coven. This feels like just shoving feminism down the throat of the audience very subtly.

On the rushed part let's just look at Susie who wanted to try out for the male team and sucked till Sabrina spells made her good for the game, she still sucked but all of a sudden In subsequent episodes we are made to believe she is great out of nowhere.

Won't spend much time on it though but the subtle feminist theme of the show in general, women being oppressed, the female witches being ignored for certain positions, how female athletes are perceived by their male peers ,and then yes how the women all prevail and even the devil being subdued by them and a woman ruling hell. Sabrina acting like a lot of entitled female folks who feel that because she is a female she deserves to win whether she is qualified or not as was exemplified in her challenging Nicholas for the position of top boy even though she knew she was no where ready or qualified for that post.

Why exactly are we being teased with a third season ,the show should have just ended cleanly at the end of this season that was a good way to end the conflict in the show and move on to better things.

One of the few things I liked about the show was the cast and the way they almost all acted out their roles perfectly.

On a whole the second season of this show did not leave up to the heights of the first season and it was not so magical at the end of it.

With all the above said its still a 7/10 rating from us at fca, i expected so much more from the second season of this show and it left a lot to be desired  but it was still fun and intriguing.

This is a Netflix original series and it premiered on Netflix last month round the whole world.

Cast of the show includes

Kiernan shipka
Lachlan watson
Glavin leatherwood
Ross Lynch
Gomes Michelle
Chance perdomo
Miranda Otto
Lucy Davies
Tati Gabrielle
Richard coyle.
