DISENCHANTMENT

Disenchantment : A tale of the Irregular
Set in the medieval fantasy kingdom of Dreamland, the series follows the story of Bean, a rebellious and alcoholic princess, her naïve elf companion Elfo, and her "personal demon" Luci. Disenchantment stars the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Eric Andre, Nat Faxon, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Matt Berry, David Herman, Maurice LaMarche, Lucy Montgomery, and Billy West.

Matt Groening finally has a Netflix production and I must confess it's wacky, it's hilarious, and it's bunkers. The tvshow follows the Princess of Dreamland and her drunken mischief with her personal demon Lucy and Elfo the elf. The animation will probably remind you of Futurama or the Simpson but then that may just be a Groening signature.
The show basically has no storyline or plot except the general escapades of the Princess and her seemingly curious desire to frustrate the king, her father. The character dialogues in the show is perhaps where the show creators got it totally right. The conversations are so brilliantly presented that you are made to forget the obvious shortcomings of the show; the lack of a conflict element. The dialogues are laced with a lot of dark humour and plenty sarcastic remarks that don't appear as such in the very first take.
We must also put it out there that we loved the progression of the show, how a plot seemed to form and develop even though there was not meant to be any. The introduction of the dark Sorcerer and Sorceress in the very first episode seemed to be a one off, perhaps to throw in more thrills or provide a medium to introduce more mischief, but the creators had more in store and we are thrilled to find out that there is going to be a second season. We cannot wait to see as the plot thickens.
The introduction of the Elixir of life and Elf blood also seemed to be aimed at addressing societal issues, man's innate desire, greed and want for everlasting life. However, that also turned out to be a wrong presumption, as the subject of the Elixir and it's object were totally different from what viewers expected. It even took us by surprise to find the dark wizards helping retrieve the vial for the Elixir. That maybe set the tone for a 2nd season?
We were not overjoyed about the release of this show, but we certainly were not disappointed with the result. All in all, a brilliant tvshow, with very good sense of humour, even though dark. We love the sarcasm, we love the dialogue and we love the way they decided to develop a plot and a theme even though the show absolutely didn't need it.
I however feel it's maybe time to change the character designs for most of this shows. But we have been informed some of the show creators prefer these character designs to allow for creative freedom, and guess what it works. The diversity with delivery of content in this show is testament to creative freedom. Brilliant.
Mention must also be made of the fact that The Original Series score( opening song) just had to be one of the better ones in recent memory. It is captivating in its own unique way and very very creative. It's different and short, not your usual long boring drab scores.
We hope season 2 is better than the first.
