The Good Fight - A Series worth watching

If you have ever watched The Good Wife and loved it (although I doubt if anyone hated that show) then you will certainly love The Good Fight. The good fight brings back the glory days of its predecessor. The pure on and off courtroom drama, the creators never shying away from addressing current affairs in American politics coupled with very good witty and intellectual dialogues and my very own, weird but lovely Elsbeth Tascioni. If you haven't seen The Good Wife, what have you been watching all these years fa??

The good fight is kind of like a Spin-off of “The Good Wife”, which to me is the best legal series ever, please don’t mention Suits here. Unlike the latter, The Good Wife showed us proper legal practice as we know it, not just showing us over pompous, proud and swagful lawyers in fancy and shining suits, blowing off fantastic dialogues with very good pop culture references, who hardly ever go to court, but always “closing deals” in bad ass way which reflects little or no insight on how real life corporate practice is.

As a lawyer, I can categorically tell you that, the profession can be really really BORING, you can be at your desk and the only action you get is from the gist you get from you bored colleague. No doubt, Suits did help polish the Legal profession, make it look all swagful and cool, but it was too much effizy, with little legal references which makes it not a very good legal series but a damn good Tv Series in general. Yup, I ain't hating on the series.

So I digress, back to the main thing, The Good fight continues where its predecessor stopped, with very good court room battles (what we, I mean a lawyer like wants to see) and not being scared to tackle real life situations or hot topics. Most of the court room cases and plots are usually from current US headlines with its sub plot being the after Donald Trump wining the US Election, also issues on Feminism, sexual assault, etc.

Rebecca Nicholson of the Guardian, stated how frequently amazed she was at how “The Good Fight gets away with its storylines”. She went on to state how the show handled topic of the rumoured Russian hotel “peepee tape”, in which a whole episode was dedicated to the discovery of it and the subsequent burial of it, and its “finale which might as well have called its mysterious shadow-in-the-darkness porn star Stormy, so thin is the fictional veneer”.

The show kicks off with Diane Lockhart, played by Christine Baranski, the shows main character, as she stares at TV screen in a state of despair and shock at the swearing in of Donald Trump as the US President unlike her role in the previous series. We get to see Diane is at the very top of legal career, in her law firm which has a very “long-ass name”, and then contemplating retirement as there is nothing left for her to achieve. But this plan was cut shut, as she losses all her retirement money in an Investment Ponzi Scheme owned by a close friend of hers, which leaves her broke. With David Lee happy that she had decided to step down refuses to allow her back into the firm after her accountant made her to realise that, going back to work and not retiring was the best option for her at that time.

Diane then moves to an all-black American law firm, Boseman, Reddick & Kolestad, as a Partner after being rejected by several law firms and declared toxic due to her role in getting people to invest in the Ponzi scheme. From this moment, we follow the life of Diane, has she re-establish herself as force to reckon with in the Legal profession and as we see in season 2, she made back all the money she lost and even more (all thanks to Trump).

Other regulars in the shows are Maia Rendell, played by Rose Leslie, whom we all know from Game of Thrones where she played Ygritte. There are familiar faces from the Good wife as well, e.g Luca Quinn, Marissa Gold, and all of the eccentric judges we saw in The Good Wife.

The Good fight is a good Tv series, with just 2 seasons under its belt, we should really strap up from greater things to come in the following seasons and if you are a fan of the latest feminism movement, you will definitely love this series, as its 3 top characters are female.
